Xana was a part of a militar project in the cold war days, the main guy who made the project (his name was Hoper) was a pacifist so he sabotaged the project and escaped with his daughter.
He created a supercomputer with time bending powers but Xana tried to infect it. And the guys of the project tried to get him, his daughter got shot, but he virtualized himself and his daughter into the supercomputer and shut it down.
Some years later Jeremy found the computer and turn it on. He found Aelita (Hoper's daughter) inside the computer, she lost her memory so she didn't remember who she was.

It's a secret pleasure of mine. Loved the shit out of it when it was airing. I turned down a lot of my friends offers to do shit after school so that I could get home and watch the new episodes. Back when it was airing, I had the entire series on my DVR so I could rewatch the episodes. All my friends back then thought it was a lame show so I kept it to myself that I watched it.

I was surprised that they got away with showing Sissy and Yumi in their underwear on american television. Kid of funny, you can get away with wet dreams, sex jokes, swearing, etc. nowadays but underwear is still a big no no. Guy gets his head blown off, everyone swears, etc? Not a problem. Girl in her underwear? THINK OF THE CHILDREN! WHY WONT ANYONE THINK OF THE CHIIIILLLLLDDDRRREEEENNNNNN!

They do. The writers don't. There's good writing within an episode, but I think there's multiple writers that didn't always compare notes with each other between episodes. Like one episode will have the gang realizing Sissy isn't so bad after all, and the next episode they'll be making fun of her and calling her names again.

Which is common in most if not all forms of animation. When you look at someone dead straight, there's obviously gonna more noticeable detail about the chin, bottom chin, neck and so on.

Really, the overall artstyle, even when transitioned to 3D, just felt awkward. While it was a step up from the Garage Kids pilot, it was still lacking a certain quality in many places. Which is kind of why I wish they had kept it 2D, and just applied a revised design style for the continuation.

Honestly, this is one of those shows that I felt really suffered from being a kid's show. Had this been made in Japan and aimed at an older audience I think it would have benefited greatly.

Alot of the problems that Season 1 had were fixed, or at least improved upon in later seasons. Voice acting and animation improved, and the series became much less episodic and status quo based. I would definitely go further with these improvements, and add a much larger focus to the whole mystery and conspiracy aspect.

And get rid of that fucking "wuh-wuuhhhh" sound effect. That has never benefited a show.

Yumi could use her telekinesis, but the strain would be more detrimental to her mind on earth because her physical form isn't able to handle such powers. Ulrich could possibly use his triplicate ability, or super sprint, but both could be risky to his health if the clones are injured or he exceeds a certain level of speed.

Not sure about Odd, given most of his abilities were just him being very agile and catlike. There was his clairvoyance, but that stuff was scrapped after season 1, and never really did serve much purpose.

So what do you think Jeremie's virtual form was like? It bugged me how he got virtualized like 3 or 4 times, and still not even a hint of it was shown in the show.

All we know is that Odd and Ulrich considered it "ridiculous", and that Jeremie himself was apparently an awful combatant who got his ass handed to him. On one hand, I could see him becoming like a wizard, given his technical prowess. While at other times I could imagine him becoming another elf like Aelita given his infatuation with her.

That's an interesting idea. Of course, I always assumed that season 2 XANA was ripping off parts of the materialization program to give his attacks more "oomph". And that his spectres were partially realized data of sorts. Think Digimon Tamers series Digimon but without directly saying they're pulling molecules and biomass.

Really, I was kind of expecting XANA to assume his own distinct human like form after season 2, but no one would immediately know aside from the audience. He'd then launch a counter-Lyoko program of sorts to fuck with the gang until they finally clashed.

Episode 24, Ghost Channel implied he was akin to a force of nature, with a limited understanding of humans when his Jeremie clone tries to imply that the real Jeremie was too pussy shit to ever virtualize. And then flipped its fucking shit when the gang proved otherwise. After that, XANA was just "Kill these greasy fucks and then do whatever".

It's definitely one reason why having another villain like Tyron appear earlier would work. Because it could allow for more insight into what project Carthage was, and how it might have played a part in XANA's turn to evil.

More solid story archs that help the story and not just fillers until the end of the season like the old series.

Either is good. Though I personally like the dub because it's got some good acting (like Odd's voice), with a little bit of ham from some of the others (mainly Aelita and Jeremie's, who plays both and changed Jeremie's like 3 times).

Odd does sound like a little girl almost in the French version, so take that as you will.

Beyond that, both are largely the same. Music isn't changed, and the story is the same. There's only like 2 instances where they imply it's not in France when it is, but they're easily ignored.

As for WHERE to start, I'd say watch the Prequel "XANA awakens" then episodes 24-26 of season 1 before going into seasons 2-4. Majority of the first season was literally filler, like Cowboy Bebop.

That's actually one idea I mentioned earlier in the thread.

A movie that essentially acts as the pilot, covering the discovery of the factory, going to Lyoko for the first time, and trying to save Aelita. Then the first season of the reboot would essentially be season 2, but with many of the changes suggested here; like Sissi growing past Ulrich. William being more than a punching bag/rival. And XANA being actually developed as more than a knockoff of the Machines from the Matrix.

Well one idea I've had is that Jeremie is experimenting with a program that allows him to modify the gang's avatars, making them taller, bulkier, etc. Something goes wrong (as it always does in the show) and it just so happens the girls catch the worst of it. So suddenly Yumi is trying to avoid being captured as 16 foot teenaged freak (with risk of heart failure considering such a large stature isn't possibly for humans), and Aelita has to hightail it before she can't be virtualized.

Of course, it could always just be XANA fucking around with humans. His powers always did get away with weird shit. Like that teddy bear and the monster made of food.
